Effect of sleep hygiene instruction to the women at the beginning of gestation on quality of sleeping

Abstract (EN)
Object: The aim of this study is to measure the sleeping quality of the women at the beginning of gestation, to determine and define the factors that influence the quality of sleeping of pregnant women and to increase the sleeping quality, to maintain a healthy pregnancy. Material and Method: The research is semi-experimental. The study population consisted of 67 pregnant women. Pregnant women in the experiment group were instructed and given an instruction booklet. Before the instruction, the pregnant women filled a socio-demographic form, Pittsburgh Sleeping Quality Index, EUROHIS-QOL, Sleeping Hygiene Form. At least four weeks after the instruction the pregnant women were seen and they filled the same forms. The pregnant women in the control group filled a socio-demographic form, Pittsburgh Sleeping Quality Index, EUROHIS-QOL, Sleeping Hygiene Form. But they were not instructed and given an instruction booklet. Number percent distribution, t-test, Mann Whitney U test, Wilcoxon Signed Ranks, Kruskal Wallis test and Spearman Correlation analysis for evaluating the relationship between scales were used for analyzing the data. Findings: The average age of the pregnant women who attended to the research is 26.854.97 (min = 18, max = 39). On the other hand, 12.3 % of pregnant women in the experiment group are graduated from primary school and 77.1 % of them are housewives. The average gestational weeks is found as 0.97±6.16 (Min=4, Max=28). 65.6 % of pregnant women in the experiment group have multiparous pregnancies, 78.1 % of them were at the 10th gestational weeks or less. 54.3 % of the pregnant women in the control group have multiparous pregnancies and 65.7 % of them were at the 10th gestational weeks or less. Conclusion: For both experimental and control groups have homogeneous distribution there is not any significant difference for quality of sleeping and score for quality of life. But a significant difference was determined in the socio-demographical aspect between these two groups. Key Words: Sleeping Hygiene, Gestation. Sleeping Quality
