Effects of complaints seen during pregnancy on the sleep quality

Abstract (EN)

This analytical cross-sectional study which aims to investigate the effects of complaints seen during pregnancy on the sleep was carried out between 15.10.2018-15.03.2019 at Aydın Obstetric Gynecology and Child Diseases Hospital obstetric outpatient clinic. 100 pregnant women from each trimester, total being 300, were taken to the research by convenience sampling. The data were gathered by "Personal Information Form", "Antepartum Symptom Control List", "Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index" which were developed by the researcher. Defining statistics (number, percentage) and Chi-squared Test were used while evaluating the data. It was determined that the average age of the pregnants involved in the research was 27,60±5,47, and educational status was maximum %26,7 secondary school. It was also determined that fatigue (%76,7), unintentional doze (%73,1), waking up to piss (%92), backache (%71), tenseness/nervosity (%74) complaints were experienced frequently by pregnants. It was detected that %51,3 of pregnants' sleep quality was bad. %28,6 of first trimester pregnants, %30,5 of second trimester pregnants, %40,9 of third trimester pregnants sleep quality was bad. It was also detected that reflux, groin pain, backache, leg pain, pelvic pain, headache, sleep changes, difficulty falling asleep, waking up in the night, can't falling asleep again after waking up, not well-rested waking, unintentional doze, tenseness/nervosity, boredom complaints affect sleep quality negative. As a result, complaints seen during pregnancy affect sleep quality negative. It was detected that a majority of the pregnants' sleep quality was bad and as the pregnancy week proceeds, sleep quality diminishes. It can be suggested that midwives being informed about the complaints seen during pregnancy and solution advices also, to attach importance to educational services.
