Abstract (EN)

Kantharos is a vessel form that was frequently used in Antiquity. It is known as a drinking bowl and the attribute of God Dionysus. The depiction of kantharos is frequently used on mosaics as in many other areas. The subject of this thesis is the kantharos designs on the mosaics, which are sometimes either used as ornamental motifs or the main theme. Kantharos designs used as simple ornamental motifs gained great importance in iconography with the spread of Christianity in Late Antiquity. During this period, kantharos was associated with Christ. This thesis, it is aimed to examine the kantharos designs on the mosaic floors dated to the Late Antiquity, both typologically and iconographically.
