Abstract (EN)

In traditional Turkish archery, a bow is attached to the back of the arrows to prevent them from changing direction during flight after being shot. While these attached feathers ensure that the arrow flies on a smooth route after being shot, it causes aerodynamic factors that affect the movement of the arrow due to its friction with the air. In the study, the effects of the geometry parameters of the feathers in the traditional Turkish arrow on aerodynamic factors were comparatively examined. To be used in experimental studies for purchasing purposes; Arrows with 3 different shapes, Parabolic, Shield and M1 types, with quills of 3, 4 and 5 inches in length were produced. A total of 54 shots were made with the arrows produced, without using a thumbring (thimble, zihgir) and with a traditional bow that can be loaded with 30 pounds of tension force by using a bracelet. Each shot was repeated three times and tables based on the average speed values of the arrows leaving the bow were created from the shots made with the help of a chronograph. When comparing the shots made with and without using a bracelet, it was seen that the arrow speed was approximately 10% higher in the shots using the bracelet. In addition, aerodynamic analyzes were carried out using computational fluid dynamics, taking into account the changes in drag coefficient values for each shot. The acoustic power level was modeled in decibel units, and the discharge performances of the arrows were evaluated and the results obtained through CFD were compared.
