Abstract (EN)

The significance of international and intercontinential transportation has been increased globally in the world and also due to its low price marine transportation can result in several problems. Among these, marine pollution generated from marine tranportation is the most important issue. In this study the identification of ship-born marine pollution, the type of generation, domestic wastewater from shipwater and polluted ballast water was made and the results from analysis was compared to national and international regulations. Several physicochemical parameters such as pH, suspended solid matter, oil and gress, chemical oxygen demand and biological oxygen demand were determined from ship wastewater and also the concentrations of heavy metals, total halogen, polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) and explosion point were measured in petroleum waste. According the results from this study, it was indicated that domestic wastewater from ships and polluted ballast water must not discharge to marine when considered the MARPOL 73/78 Agreement. Therefore, the wastes from the studied ships must be discharged to waste acceptance facility at the port. Moreover, it was concluded that petroluem wastes from ships were suitable to recover by regeneration and refinement or to use as an additive to fuel. Keywords: Marine pollution, domestic wastewater, polluted ballast water.
