SAFETY OPERATION AT MARINE ENGINE MANAGEMENTMUHSİN BAYRAKTARABSTRACTNowadays, ships are in service for people at various fields. Both ship crew and passengers areresponsible to accomplish their role for safety, however, it seems as if it is the duty of shipcaptain.In this study, rules for the safety of everyone and goods on board, safety of ship, safety ofoperation and repair and maintenance are investigated.In this context, ISM code for the safety of ship engine, SOLAS rules for the equipment usedin ship operation, port state control requirements for ship, crew and passengers (passengercarrying ships) are covered in detail. Exclusive special subjects (i.e., places not periodicallyinspected, steering room and bilge) are separately mentioned.In this thesis prepared, in the engine room of ship, both at port and at sea, role of eachpersonnel for safety and account for his own safety is stated clearly. During periodicaltraining and practice, at risk of fire, collision or abandon role of personnel, approaching andhandling danger relating to safety of ship are instructed in detail.Keywords: ISM code, SOLAS, PBS.
