Abstract (EN)
Cultural alienation, which is defined as the existence of alienation through culture, constitutes a problem that arises when individuals move away from the existing cultural values of the society they live in, and distance themselves from it, especially when they see different cultural values as close to themselves. Although cultural alienation was seen as an adaptation problem experienced in the transition to a new culture in the historical process, it is argued that cultural alienation can be experienced through the media today. The media can play a role in the cultural alienation of individuals and society by producing negative cultural codes as well as foreign positive cultural codes. At the same time, as a media product, it is often criticized that TV series get into people's lives and make a bond with them and affect their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. Starting from this point of view, This study aims to determine whether the TV series adapted from foreign productions and broadcasted on national/terrestrial channels have a role in the cultural alienation of young individuals between the ages of 18-29. In this context, the basis of cultural alienation is based on the degeneration or change of a language, art, morality, identity, clothing, and lifestyle between cultural elements. In the scope of the research, the quantitative research method was followed and the screening model was adopted. This research aims to reach young individuals that watch TV series by applying web-based survey techniques. The survey study consists of three parts, the first two parts include demographic questions and multiple-choice questions for the research preliminary questions. In the third and last part, a 22-question Likert scale was used on the effect of TV series adapted from foreign productions on cultural alienation. In the study, 302 young individuals who were limited to the age of 18-29 participated and it was tried to understand whether these individuals were affected by cultural alienation by learning their emotions, thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors against the foreign cultural codes reflected in the adaptation series in foreign productions. In this paper, the Descriptive statistical data analysis method is preferred. As a result of the findings obtained; Young individuals encounter foreign cultural elements and values while watching adaptations from foreign productions, and foreign cultural codes attract their attention. Finally, after watching TV series adapted from foreign productions, young people want to include foreign cultural elements or values into their daily lives, apart from their own culture.
