Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this research is to examine emotional eating in terms of various variables. Emotional eating, which is a new concept in the literature, is a new field of study in Turkey. There is a lot of research in the literature on eating disorders, but there is a limited number of studies on emotional eating. Although there are various studies on eating disorders and emotional eating in the international literature, attention should be drawn to the emotional eating situation in Turkey. In Turkey, no studies were found examining emotional eating and social anxiety, stress, anxiety, depression and anxiety variables together. Therefore, it was decided that these variables should be examined together with emotional eating. This research is a descriptive research prepared according to the relational screening model, one of the quantitative research methods. In this study, emotional eating is the dependent variable, and other variables measured are gender, status of applying to a dietitian, relationship status, BMI, self-acceptance, weight satisfaction, education level, academic success, depression, anxiety, and social anxiety are independent variables. Volunteer participants filled in their demographic information (age, gender, height, weight, educational status, academic success, romantic relationship status, application to a dietitian, weight satisfaction, self-acceptance). Data were collected face to face and via Google docs. The study population of the research consisted of 416 young adults between the ages of 18-29 who agreed to participate in the research voluntarily. The sample group to be studied here was not formed randomly, but by selecting people for a purpose. Criterion sampling method was used in this research. The method in which the criterion is determined by the researcher is called the criterion research method. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Analysis and Multiple Regression Analysis, Independent Sample T test and One Way Anova were used to analyze the data. According to the research results, there is a weakly significant positive relationship between depression total scores and emotional eating scores. There is a positive, moderately significant relationship between anxiety total scores and emotional eating scores. There appears to be a positive, moderately significant relationship vi between stress total scores and emotional eating scores. There is a positive, moderately significant relationship between the Dass 21 scale total score and emotional eating total scores. There is a weakly positive and significant relationship between social anxiety total scores and emotional eating scores. There is a very weakly significant positive relationship between BMI and emotional eating variables. It shows that 37% of the change in emotional eating behavior score is explained by the independent variables in the model: DASS 21, BMI and social anxiety. It was found that emotional eating scores showed a significant difference according to gender. It was observed that the emotional eating score averages of women were significantly different from those of men. It was observed that there was no significant difference between emotional eating scores and the educational status variable. It revealed that there was no significant difference between emotional eating scores and academic achievement and relationship status variables. There is a significant difference between emotional eating scores according to the variable of consulting a dietician. It is seen that the average emotional eating scores of those who have not consulted a dietitian before are lower, while those who have applied have higher emotional eating scores. There appears to be a significant difference between emotional eating and the weight satisfaction variable. Satisfaction and dissatisfaction with weight status differ significantly among themselves. There appears to be a significant difference between emotional eating scores and the self-acceptance variable. There are multiple significant differences in overweight and underweight levels. There appears to be a significant difference between emotional eating scores and body mass index. There are multiple significant differences in BMI levels. It was observed that there was a significant difference between emotional eating scores and depression. Depression levels create multiple significant differences among themselves. It was observed that there was a significant difference between emotional eating scores and anxiety. Anxiety levels create multiple significant differences among themselves. It was observed that there was a significant difference between emotional eating scores and stress. Stress levels create multiple significant differences among themselves
