Abstract (EN)
It is known that the loneliness has an undeniable effect on interpersonal relationships and romantic relationships together with the effects on psychological and physical health. In this context, the current study aimed to examine the relationship between loneliness and psychological well-being, romantic relationship satisfaction and emotion regulation in young adults. A total of 281 young adults, 192 women and 89 men, aged between 22-35 years, were participated in the study. Participants were determined using convenience sampling method. Relationships between research variables were examined with t-tests, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Pearson correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression. During the data collection process, Personal Information Form, Social and Emotional Loneliness Scale for Adults, Psychological Well-Being Scale, Relationship Assessment Scale, and The Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale were used. Results of multiple regression analysis revealed that psychological well-being, relationship assessment and difficulties in emotion regulation predicted loneliness. Correlation analysis showed that while the level of loneliness is negatively related to psychological well-being and romantic relationship satisfaction, it is positively related to the difficulties in emotion regulation. In the light of these results, it is believed that psychological well-being, romantic relationship satisfaction and emotion regulation will be protective factors of loneliness among young adults.
