Abstract (EN)

Aim of this study is to research the effect of computer based materials of instruction of Gases in General Chemistry on students? acadenic success in Gases. In this study, the effects of Computer Assisted Instruction on the learning of Gases which takes place in the General Chemistry curriculum were investigated based on trial method. Before the practical application, Test of Readiness About Gases was applied to the groups. After that, pre-test was applied to each group. While Computer Assisted Instruction was applied for the experimental group, conventional learning approach was applied for the control group. At the end of the application, the post-test was applied to them. After that, 15 students were chosen from groups, including the successful ones, the unsuccessful ones and the ones who reached intermediate level and they had an interview. At the end of the study, no significant difference was found out in the academic success of Gases that take place in General Chemistry curriculum between the experimental group to whom Computer Assisted Instruction was applied and the control group to whom conventional learning approach was applied. According to interview results, the experimental group had much more positive views about Computer Assisted Instruction than negative views. Besides, it was seen that the control group had more positive views about conventional learning approach than negative views. Keywords: Chemistry Education, Computer Assisted Instruction, Gases, Academic Success, Student?s Views
