Abstract (EN)

The aim of this thesis is to investigate if the genetic algorithm method can be applied or not on seismic data and how successful it will be. In this study seismic travel time data were applied on genetic algorithm and least squares methods and the results were examined. The model is made up from two square blocks. We used travel time data for the model. We calculated seismic velocity of the two blocks related to this data and we used genetic algorithm and least squares methods when we calculated the velocity of the blocks. Besides, we decreased the dimensions keeping the model structure fit and travel time, we repeated the applications and compared the results. At the end of the research, seismic inversion with genetic algorithm process gave us successful results on beginner levels and basic models. Seismic inversion with genetic algorithm should be researched for more complex configurations and upper level models.
