Abstract (EN)
This thesis comprehensively examines the urban growth processes in the western region (Merkezefendi) of Denizli, bringing together traditional and contemporary theoretical approaches to understand the dynamics of urban growth. Utilizing quantitative data analysis and spatial analysis methods, the thesis evaluates factors such as population growth, urban planning studies, public-private sector investments, transportation-infrastructure activities, land use changes, and urban macroform changes. The focal point of the research is to deeply understand Denizli's urban growth processes and provide an empirical foundation to guide future planning processes. The aim of the thesis is to describe, analyze, and provide data to support future policy recommendations based on current urban growth dynamics. The results of the research reveal the complexity of Denizli's urban growth processes and their effects on the relationship between the city center and its periphery. By offering a methodological approach, the thesis provides a framework to better understand the city's growth and development processes and to intervene effectively. Among the future recommendations of the thesis, research on sub-urbanization and socio-spatial segregation holds significant importance. Particularly, the social impacts of sub-urbanization in the western region, including income inequalities and access to urban services, are highlighted. Furthermore, it is suggested to thoroughly examine the relationships between different centers in the city and the effects of real estate speculation on urban growth.
