The effect of instruction with geogebra on 7th grade students' academic achievement and attitudes toward geometry

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of using dynamic geometry software GeoGebra in learning mathematics on students' academic achievement and attitudes towards geometry. For this purpose, "Quadrilaterals Area Of The Region", "The Length Of The Circle And Arch Circle " and " The Area Of The Circle And Sector " issues of 7th grade mathematic lesson are treated with the help of the draft prepared by GeoGebra. This quasi-experimental study was conducted in the 2012-2013 academic year. The samples of this study were students of Mehmet Bülent Özyürek Middle School in İnebolu who were studying in the classroom 7th grate. The experimental and controls groups contained 19 and 23 students, respectively. The research took 12 lessons for a total of 4 lessons per week. 28-item achievement test developed by the researcher and the attitudes towards geometry test were applied the pre-test and post-test. During the study, students in the experimental group have gained GeoGebra worksheets prepared with the help of sketches and computer-aided learning and the students in the control group have studied current constructivist learning environment. The data collected in the study was obtained "Achievement Test" and "Towards a Geometry Attitude Scale". Data collection tools were applied at the same time experimental and control groups. According to the results of the study, the methods applied in both the experimental and control groups increase student achievement, but this increase is observed to be more in favor of computer-assisted instruction which concluded that the experimental group. We also evaluated the results of groups of pupils attitude scale geometry, using GeoGebra program in favor of the experimental group was found to be a statistically significant difference.
