The Study and application examples about geotextiles

Because of their technical advantages and low cost solutions, geotextiles haveimportant place in civil engineering. Dropping market share and having necessity for newmarkets in mid 21st century, geotextiles started to penetrate into construction sector andbecome substitute for conventional construction material and applications. Bigger pace wasafter the exploration of synthetic fibers.At first, application areas were narrower but recently geotextiles have special increasingapplication fields. While unbelievable improvements of applications and designs of geotextilesare becoming varied, it is not an exaggeration to say peak of those developments are limitedwith the imagination of human mind.Increasing number of varied applications and different geotextile products all over the worldbrings some problems as follows;- Yet communication does develop parallel to innovations of geotextile, both designersand users could not get enough information about the product- International standardization was not established; for the same applications, differentstandards are constituted through different countries even within the same country.Differentiated experiment methods made it hard to evaluate results.- Too many names and technical terms were generated for geotextiles. Same productswhich have been manufactured independently have different names. That slows downto obtain information. Geotextiles in Turkey still do not have Turkish names.In the next chapter, points to pay attention while using geotexrtile in design is discussed anddifferent design methods are compared.One other subject discussed within this thesis is, the usage of geotextiles for filtration. Forthis purpose working mechanism of geotextile filters have been examined, mineral filters andgeotextile filters have been compared both theoretically and practically and some usage areasof geotextile filters have been examined.
