The effect of realistic mathematics education learning products of 6th grade students on geometric objects

In this study, in order to investigate the effect of the realistic mathematical education on the academic achievements of the 6th grade students on the topic of the geometrical objects, the mixed method was used consisting both quantitative and qualitative methods. For this purpose a quasi-experimental study with pre-test post-test control group was carried out. Qualitative data was collected from students views were used to support quantitative data. The research was carried out with 37 students (17 girls. 20 boys) attending the 6th grade of a public school in Siirt province during the second semester of the acedemic year 2017-2018, the quantitative data of the study were obtained by examining the mathematics Achievement Test and semi-structured ınterview form Additionally mathematics attitude scale that improved by Akşar was used to evaluate the students attitudes. One of the classes used in the study was the experimental group (7 girls 9 boys) and the other was the control group (10 girls, 11 boys)In the experimental group, the subject of "Geometrical Objects" was taught via Realistıc Mathematical Education Method and in the experimental group in the analysis of the quantitative data of the study; unrelated sample t-test and related sample t-tests were used. And the content Analysis Method was used for the analysis of the quatitative data. As a result of the research, it is seen that, while the Realistic Mathematical Education method increases the academic achievement according to the traditional learning method. And also there was no significant difference between the students according to their attitudes to mathematics. In addition to this, ıt was reached that the students have a positiveview to the Realistic mathematical Education. The findings were discussed with the literatüre and some suggestion were made.
