Abstract (EN)
In this study, the geographic locations that have the richest granite reserves in south of Sakarya were identified. The measurement and the evaluation of the levels of the indoor places, soil and the drinking water activity concentrations in Geyve Town where the soil has granite alloy, Doğançay region and Örencik village were done. This study examined the existence of the Radon Gas Concentration at the indoor places and in soil by the nuclear tracing scrape method using the detectors which were checked in the Nuclear Physics Labs in the Science and Literature Faculty of the Sakarya University. The Water measurements were also taken by the RAD7 measurement device in there. The detectors to measure the concentration of the indoor activity were kept in the houses for 2 months. In order to do the soil measurement can method were used. All the soil that was collected from the region was first sifted off the bugs and rubbish then kiln dried to free it from its humidity. The kiln dried soil was ground and they were kept inclosed cans for 90 days. Indoor radon concentration have measured respectivelyin Geyve for winter 221.63 Bq/m3and for summer 138.37Bq/m3, in Örencik for winter 793.67Bq/m3 and for summer 194.00 Bq/m3, in Doğançay for winter 273.67Bq/m3 and for summer 150.56Bq/m3. Drinking water radon concentration have measured respectively in Geyve 1.66 Bq/L, in Örencik 0.93Bq/L and in Doğançay 1.15 Bq/l. Soil radon concentration have measured respectively in Geyve 463.4 Bq/m3, in Örencik 587.11Bq/m3 and in Doğançay 447.18 Bq/m3. It was observed that the measured water activity was very low but the soil measurement was normal compare to the results of the WHO (Worlds Health Organization) and TAEK's maximum limits. However, it was observed that the indoor places in Geyve and Dogancay have no risks of the Radon Activity, while the maximum limits were around twice as much in Orencik village. Cancer cases found in the region showed that the situation is alarming enough to constitute a problem.
