Global economy and Turkey

Globalization is defined as the elimination of national borders and nations integrating with the economic, social, cultural, political and legal environment. Globalization has been widely experienced in the world and in Turkey since the 1980s.In this study, the process of economic globalization in the world has been studied and Turkey?s adaptation to this process has been investigated especially in terms of foreign trade and foreign direct investment. Since the 1980s, in accordance with the globalizing world, the opening of Turkey to the world, the liberalization of money and financial markets, the development of technological structure and the membership of European Union has occured. Furthermore, after 1980, in parallel with the globalization movements in the world, Turkey has shifted from import substitution policies to the export oriented industrialization. At the same time, according to the rising in the export and foreign direct investmests, which are the most important indicators of globalization, Turkey has positively been affected by economic globalization.As a result, as indicated by Turkey?s adaptation period to the globalization process for the last 25 years, in terms of the world?s economic integration and globalization, many steps have continuely been taken in many areas.
