The effect of cold application in pain on the patients with chest tube before deep breathing and coughing exercises

Abstract (EN)

This research; is a randomized controlled experimental study aimed to investigate the effect of cold application before deep breathing and coughing exercise in pain on patients with a chest tube. The universe of the study, which was conducted in Düzce University Health Research and Application Center, was followed by the Chest Surgery Unit between 02.05.2017 / 24.10.2019 is created by patients with chest tube application. The study sample consisted of patients who met the inclusion criteria. According to the power analysis which meets the criteria for inclusion of was planned to work with a total of 70 patients with a clinical and statistically significant difference with a relationship of 0.5 between %80 power, %30 effect sixe and measurements at a %5 significance level. To collect data; the experimental group informed consent form, the control group informed consent form, patient identification form, visual comparison scale (VAS), cold gel package were used. Cold application was applied to the experimental group before deep breathing and coughing exercise, and cold application was not applied to the control group. It was determined that the pain score (3.31) of the participants in the experimental group after deep breathing and coughing exercise was lower than the pre-application score (4.24). The pain scores (5.29) of the participants in the control group were significantly higher than the pre-pain scores (3.47) after deep breathing and coughing exercises. As a result; It was found that cold application before deep breathing coughing exercise was effective in relieving pain in patients with chest tube.
