The atmospheric pollens of Gökçeada and Bozcaada

Atmospheric pollen concentrations were observed between January 2005 and December 2006 in Gökçeada and Bozcaada towns in Çanakkale Province. In this study, gravimetric method (Durham sampler) was used. Preparations were put in a Durham device and replaced once a week and analysis were made as the calculation of pollen fall down per cm2 per week and per month.During this study, in total, pollen of 25 different plant taxa were identifited in atmosphere of Gökçeada. 13 of them were woody and 12 of them wer herbaceous taxa. 54.43 % of the total pollens belonged to woody plants, 42.98 % of them belonged to herbaceous plants and 3.58 % of them could not be identified. In Gökçeada atmosphere the most frequently observed woody plant pollens belonged to Pinus spp., Olea spp., Quercus spp., Platanus spp., Cupressaceae/Taxaceae, Rosaceae ve Betulaceae and the most abundant herbaceous plant pollens belonged to Poaceae, Plantago spp., Chenopodiaceae/Amaranthaceae, Brassicaceae, Urticaceae ve Asteraceae taxa.In total, pollens belonging to 26 taxa were identified in the atmosphere of Bozcaada. 14 of them were woody and 12 of them were herbaceous taxa. 59.60 % of them were woody, 36.93 % of them herbaceous plant pollens while 3.46 % pollens could not identified. Respectively, most observed woody and herbaceous plant taxa pollens belonged to Pinus spp., Quercus spp., Cupressaceae/Taxaceae, Platanus spp., Olea spp., Betulaceae, Rosaceae and Chenopodiaceae/Amaranthaceae, Poaceae, Asteraceae, Urticaceae ve Plantago spp.Monthly mean pollen fall values showed that highest pollen fall occurred during April in both Gökçeada and Bozcaada.
