Abstract (EN)
This study aimed to comparatively evaluate the effects of two distinct non-pharmacological interventions — green glasses and 432 Hz frequency music — on individuals' levels of stress and anxiety during the preoperative phase of impacted mandibular third molar surgery. Reducing preoperative anxiety in dental settings contributes to improving patient comfort, enhancing procedural success, and minimizing postoperative complications. Accordingly, this research was designed as a randomized, controlled, and prospective clinical study. A total of 80 systemically healthy individuals were enrolled. Participants were randomly assigned into four groups: control group, green glasses group, 432 Hz music group, and combination group (green glasses + 432 Hz music). Pre- and post-intervention assessments included the Dental Anxiety Scale (DAS), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Visual Analog Scale (VAS), salivary cortisol levels, pulse rate, and oxygen saturation. The findings demonstrated that both green glasses and 432 Hz frequency music significantly reduced stress and anxiety levels. Notably, the combination group showed more pronounced improvements in both psychological and physiological parameters compared to the other groups. The 432 Hz music alone also provided substantial reductions in cortisol levels and physiological relaxation, while the green glasses intervention was found to be effective in modulating stress-related vital signs. These results suggest that non-pharmacological interventions, particularly the combined use of green light and 432 Hz music, are effective and safe methods for managing dental anxiety in the preoperative period. Integration of these techniques into clinical practice as an alternative or complementary approach to pharmacological strategies is recommended.
