Research on the creations of Faruk Çağla graphic artist and cartoonist

Graphic and caricature artist Faruk Çağla studied as a student between 1975-1980 in the graphics department of the State School of Applied Fine Arts (DTGSYO) which is the only education institute in Turkey in congruence with legendary Bauhaus school of Germany that provides training in art and craft unity having the principle of "art is for indusrty"and the conception of "teacher is a master, student is an apprentice". DTGSYO, which is also called as Tatbiki (the Applied) in short, was awarded thousands of graduates in five departments: Interior Architecture, Decorative Painting, Textile, Ceramics and Graphics until its foundation in 1957 and its incorporation into Marmara University in 1982. Many of its graduates have been found in successful missions in Turkey's most important industrial and commercial organizations along with the branches they graduated from. Faruk Çağla is one of the last graduates of Tatbiki in 1980, just 2 years before the closure of the educational institution. Çağla, who has been painting since his childhood, started his profession as a ranker in Cağaloğlu, the heart of the press and advertising sector in İstanbul, during his high school years. Later, he worked as a graphic designer in the advertising agencies and printing houses during his education in Tatbiki and after his graduation. He also worked as a caricaturist the in newspapers and magazines in virtue of his talent for drawing and illustration. After his retirement, he worked as a lecturer at the universities in order to transfer his accumulation to the younger generations. During the lecturing days he passed the ALES exam at the age of 59 in 2015 and achieved master degree at his age of 60. Following that he also passed the foreign language exam (YDS). Çağla has been our thesis subject since he featured both to have a 48-year professional designing experience and to be an educator starting the academic 'proficiency in art' process in the graphic design branch at the age of 62 to prove that he is also proficient in art academically and to advance in his academic career. He also featured to be one of the exceptional artists who are able to produce graphical designs both with the traditional manual methods on the paper with brushes and with the modern digital software programmes on computer. As a conclusion, the complete works of Faruk Çağla have been evaluated since his childhood from the point of their generation process, considering the time period that graphic design techniques had changed dramatically which can be called as computer revolution; very closely witnessed the struggle of a graphic artist, whose art and profession life approaches to half a century, to practice his profession and to transfer it to the younger generations against changing graphic design technologies.
