Abstract (EN)
This thesis has been conducted in order to investigate how the concept of self, which artists handle with an autoethnographic approach, transforms into contemporary art practice as an artistic strategy. In the study, an artist from different disciplines was chosen due to the large number the artists and productions related to the concept of the self, and it was tried to be examined through his most important works that consider the self as a strategy. In this context, identity, gender, autobiography, autoethnography, body and object concepts selected as a self-strategy have been discussed in the context of contemporary art practices such as performance, installation, video, photography, collage, etc. The artists and their works were obtained by literature review and document analysis method. In the data obtained, it was determined that the artists turned into an object of "presentation" as a new form of representation in contemporary art practices instead of the formal and aesthetic expression form in the approach to represent themselves in the modern period. This research, which adopts an autobiographical approach to discover itself in line with the self-strategy, proposes that it should be seen as an experimental field for developing and constructing new information about a transitional autobiographical storytelling as a process of developing a new identity.
