Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to present the reflections of Neo-Ottomanism and Kemalism discourses, as ideological examples, in everyday life. By adopting Bourdieu's sociology, which addresses the acceptance and exclusion of choices, preferences, and desires through social phenomena and actors, this study seeks to impartially examine the polarized social life in contemporary Turkey. The findings are analyzed within the context of interpretive social science (ISS). The sample selected for the research consists of 80 independent individuals aged 15 and above, representing diverse occupational and income classes. The data was collected through both online and face-to-face surveys. Due to the researcher's proximity, participants were selected from the researcher's circle and randomly from online education sites using written and online survey systems. Based on the survey questions prepared in parallel with Bourdieu's content analysis, the study explores the selections, preferences, consumption patterns, group formations, and exclusions experienced by individuals within the sample. The study assesses how personal characteristics and preferences (age, gender, ideology, film, music, clothing, language, religion, race, etc.) shape and construct everyday life within the specified sample and population, through graph and data analyses of the survey results. The framework of the study aims to demonstrate how Neo-Ottomanism and Kemalism began in Turkey, how they continue today, and how they manifest and are consumed in everyday life, institutions, and organizations. It seeks to show that preference, consumption, and taste serve as tools of class, economic, cultural, and social differentiation. The survey method is interpreted through the lens of interpretive social science and enriched with SPSS assistance. The methodology is based on content analysis aligned with Bourdieu's work, using a non-probability convenience sample from the researcher's environment and online sites. The study's method involves a non-random convenience sampling for survey application. Of the surveys, forty were conducted face-to-face between 2019-2022, and the other forty were conducted online using digital forms across various ages, statuses, and genders on online platforms. Key Words: Socialization, Area, Capital, Hegemony, Reproduction, Kemalism, Neo-Ottomanism
