Abstract (EN)

SOLAR WEATER HEATİNG BY HEAT PİPE (M.Sc. Thesis) Sezay i YILMAZ GAZİ UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY May 1988 ABSTRACT The solar water heaters widely used in Turkey occupy large space and have freezing problems in winter. Due to these drawbacks their use has been limited for cetain regions in Turkey. The heat pipe principle, if properly applied, can ovecome these drawbacks. In this study the prototype heat pipe solar water heater was constracted and tested. The results are compared with the open loop natural circulating solar water heater of the same overall characteristics. The result of tests showed that solar water heater with a heat pipe has a higher rate of heat transfer. 2 4194 KJ/m.day the condition of radiation of the and of the jourth day, the maximum tank water temperatures for the solar water heater with a heat pipe and the classical solar water were 75 C and 55°C respectively. The performance ratio which was (0.53) forthe classical system has reached a value of (0.72) in the new system. Furthermore, the new system has a simple construction, no freezing problems and has a better appeurance compared to the classical system. The solar water heater with a heat pipe can be used in all weather conditions. -Ill-
