Socio-economic characteristics and problems of fisherman in the South Marmara

This research was carried out in the districts and towns of Bursa, Balıkesir and Çanakkale, which are located on the coastline of the Southern Marmara Region. The aim of the study is to reveal the socio-economic structure of fishermen operating in the Southern Marmara Region. In addition, it is aimed to determine the spatial differences in the socio-economic structure of the fishery through the sampling points selected in the provinces of Çanakkale and Balıkesir, which have coasts on both the Marmara Sea and the Aegean Sea. In the evaluation tables and evaluation graphics, Ayvalık, Altınoluk, Burhaniye and Cunda, whose local names are KÖRFEZ, Gemlik, Mudanya, Armutlu, Kapakli and similarly Gemlik, Babakale, Küçükkuyu, Gülpınar Çanakkale, Bandırma, Karşıyaka, Erdek, Tatlısu, Çakıl, Şahinburgaz Bandırma are evaluated by their names. The survey study consisting of 44 questions was applied to 199 fishermen operating in the regions that were evaluated. The study was carried out face-to- face with fishermen operating in the research areas between February 2021 and August 2022. Survey answers obtained from field applications were transferred to the computer and they have been interpreted by turning into tables and graphs with Microsoft Word and Excel programs. Survey questions asked to fishermen; The age of the fishermen, civilized status, education situations, home and automobile ownerships, social security situations, professional experiences, reasons for starting the profession, members of the cooperative, expectations from state administration and local government, hunting tools and features, marketing forms and problems they live in have handled. The spatial differences in the socio-economic structure of fisheries were revealed by using statistical analyzes of the data obtained from the survey. While the arried-out research aims to find out marine, technological, cultural etc. differences, it also aims to shed light on future research. As a result, according the data obtained from the literature surveys and the data obtained from the survey scons, the level of education in our fisheries has increased, improvements while observing that the rate of fishermens entry to SGK increased, the rate of buying a house decreased, ıt has been revealed that the average age of fishermen is high and the do not want their children to do this job.
