Abstract (EN)
Epics are significant literary works that reflect the history, mythology, heroes, and values of a culture. Southern Siberia holds a rich heritage for Turkic culture, and the communities living in this region have created their own epic narratives. These epics, which have been transmitted orally from generation to generation, often focus on themes such as heroism, love, and warfare. In this context, epithets are word groups used to emphasize the characteristics of heroes, the atmosphere of events, and the qualities of locations within the epics. This study primarily aims to explore the culture, history, and linguistic structure of the Southern Siberia region to uncover the foundational attributes of the Turkic epic tradition that emerged there. Subsequently, it provides a detailed analysis of the role and usage of epithets in these epics. By examining the semantic and structural properties of epithets found in Southern Siberian Turkic epics, the study sheds light on how these epithets describe epic heroes, events, and settings. Additionally, the effects of epithets on the linguistic structure of the epics are evaluated, highlighting their contribution to the coherence and expressiveness of the narrative. The study further delves into the connections between the epithets and cultural symbols, as well as their meanings within social and historical contexts. It offers valuable insights into the contributions of epithets to the semantic world of the epics and how these literary elements are interwoven with cultural symbols. Moreover, this research serves as a reference source for researchers seeking to understand various aspects of the Turkic epic tradition and examine the distinctive characteristics of this tradition in the Southern Siberian region.
