Abstract (EN)

This thesis study focuses on the phases that photography books have gone through untilnowadays, in the context of relationships between photography, paper, and printed publications. The study examines how the presentation and distribution of photography became widespread, especially from the second half of the 19th century, through the development of printing techniques, followed by periodical publications. The emergence of photo books, that were published intensely at the beginning of the 20th century in Germany and Russia, and from the middle of the century in the USA, are discussed within the framework of this study. The thesis study also highlights differences in the usage of singular and multiple photography, as well as differences in narrative methods used in photo books. In the last chapter, within the scope of the thesis the photo book is presented and scrutinized with its physical and conceptual representation.
