Determining the graphic assesment abilities of students at graphic departments of fine arts faculties through emblem analysis

Abstract (EN)
The aim of this research is to evaluate the Fine Arts Faculty, Graphic Department students? ability to assess university emblems.The seniors in Graphic Departments of Fine Arts Faculties of Akdeniz, Anadolu, Başkent, Dumlupınar, Hacettepe, Marmara and Suleyman Demirel Universities in 2007-2008 academic year compose the sample of the study, which is based on a general survey model.Both quantitative and qualitative methods are used together in data collection. The questionnaire method was used in the quantitative part of the research while interview method was used in the qualitative part. SPSS package program was used in the analysis of the quantitative data. Fort he sub-aims of the research, the data was analyzed using Mann Whitney U-test, t- test and Kruskal Wallis test. Qualitative data was analyzed using the content analysis technique.As a result of the research, there was not a significant difference found in terms of the variables of ?expert views? and ?age? in the evaluation of the university emblems. Whereas fort he variable of ?gender?, among 8 university emblems, significant differences were found for 2 university emblems in terms of ?visual? dimension and for 4 university emblems in terms of ?content? dimension. In terms of the variable of ?university?, significant differences were found for 4 university emblems in terms of ?visual? dimension and for 7 university emblems in terms of ?content? dimension.Also, in the research, the students? and experts? evaluations and comments about university were applied. In the analysis of the qualitative data acquired, it was observed that the students had similar abilities as the experts in assessing emblems and they could evaluate and criticize in a similar way as the experts. It is taught that different results could be obtained in case students? own university emblems are used in data collection.
