Abstract (EN)
When hadith students listened to hadiths from their teachers, they did not transmit them without any scrutiny or questioning their teachers. On the contrary, the efforts to critique the narrations and to assess the integrity and accuracy of their teachers became widespread among them over time through various methods. One of the methods employed by hadith students to measure the competence of their teachers in transmitting narrations was to subject them to certain tests and investigations. In the works on hadith methodology, examples of some narrator examinations applied by students to their teachers have been encountered. These examples raise the question of whether such examinations were a rare occurrence or a systematic method employed by the students. Additionally, these examples have prompted the exploration of questions such as "When did this method applied by hadith scholars emerge? In what manner and style did they examine the narrators? What were their purposes in conducting these examinations? What were the attitudes of the teachers towards these examinations? How did these examinations affect the science of jarh and ta'dil?" To find answers to these questions, early jarh and ta'dil literature have been scanned, and examples related to hadith examinations have been identified. Subsequently, these examples were analyzed and categorized based on the methods employed by hadith students. A historical and scientific analysis of the transmitters' examinations has been conducted based on these examples. Efforts have been made to reveal the outcomes of these examinations and their effects on the science of jarh and ta'dil. One of the most significant findings of the study is that a large portion of the judgments about narrators in jarh and ta'dil books were formed based on these examinations, and without understanding these examinations, the background of the judgments about the narrators cannot be fully comprehended.
