Abstract (EN)

This thesis titled "Hans Ulrich Obrist's Curatorial Practices at Serpentine Gallery Between 2008-2020" is mainly focused on understanding the curatorial practise through examination of a selection of exhibitions by Obrist during and before his Serpentine Gallery era. The starting point of the thesis is to contribute to the literature and to increase the focus on curator and curatorial practices such as theses focusing on artists' works. In this context, the first chapter explores the journey of curating in regards to its roots in history, e.g. various areas of work before contemporary art, while illuminating how it evolved to the present day. In the second chapter, Hans Ulrich Obrist's biography and works as a freelance curator are thoroughly described and his participation in the Serpentine Gallery is explained. In the third and last chapter, a selection review consisting of exhibitions by Obris at the Serpentine Gallery was presented, and Hans Ulrich Obrist's working principles as a curator are revealed in line with these exhibition analysis.
