Abstract (EN)
Yahya Kâmî, one of the representatives of Divan Literature in 18 th - 10 th century, was born in 1773 in Suda castle and moved to Hania in 1788. He studied in medresse of that age, became a customs officer and he moved to Istanbul in 1802. We don't have much information where and how he died. Kâmî remaied a local poet, but couldn't receive Turkish Literature wholly. There are 4 manuscripts of his Divan. This shows that the poet was known. Kâmî wrote poems contrary to the general idea of Divan Literature. Kâmî was also a sufi poet. He was connected with Mehmet Emin Kadiri, a sheikh of Kadirî sect. Primqrily, he was influenced by Nuri Ephendi, an assistant of Salacıoğlu Mustafa who is a sheikh of Celvetiye sect. Kâmî read the divans of remerkable poets of Divan Literature and he was mostly influenced by Nabi, Nedim and Nuri Ephendi. He admired Nuri and considered him as a master. He was inflenced by Nabi's hikemi method and made one of his gazel a tahmis. He was influenced by one of Nedim's manners "poem open to street" and wrote about the sexuality of a darling. Thus, he acted in a confused manner; Nuri's sufism, Nabi's hikemi understanding and Nedim's poetrry open to street, but couldn't putforword a new understanding. He has 224 poems in his Divan: The distributun of him poems is; Kaside: 24, (10.7%) Gazel: 132 (58.9%) Kıt'a: 42 (18.75%) Nazm: 11 (4.9%) Beyit: 2 (0.8%), Mesnevi: 6 (2.6%), Terkib-i Bend: 1 (0.4%), Tahmis: 5 (2.2%), Muhammes: 1 (0.4%) Kâmî is an important poet for the Turkish Literature in Adalar, Girit and Hania and for Turkish social and cultural life.
