Social, cultural and economic structure of Aksaray according to Hasandaği Newspaper (1966-1970)

Local newspapers play a crucial role in historical research due to their provision of comprehensive information about the cities they are published in. They serve as significant sources for accurately analyzing events during the periods under examination. The aim of this study is to examine the socio-cultural and economic structure of Aksaray between 1966 and 1970 according to Hasandağı Newspaper, the city's first daily newspaper. During the period under review, Aksaray was a district-level administrative unit. The newspaper covered various topics including municipal services in the district, activities of social welfare organizations, educational initiatives, economic life, healthcare services, innovations, and daily events. Despite being a district, Aksaray had a relatively large population during those years, and occasional issues were observed regarding public services. The details, contents, and citizen complaints regarding these issues were frequently reported in Hasandağı Newspaper. The items mentioned in the petition presented by Member of Parliament Yaşar Arıbaş to the Prime Ministry under the title "Demands of Aksaray" also confirm these difficulties. Ultimately, it was determined that during the period under study, Aksaray had an effective socio-cultural structure that worked in collaboration with the state and citizens towards economic and social development.
