Hospitals public relations function overview: An application of Adana region

Hospitals are the most important institutions with their service and working conditions for public relations. The main target of the hospitals are the whole community and hospitals are interested in the patients and relatives of the patients. Patients and relatives need employees who provides easily can be understood services, understanding and completing the tasks without a loss. There are important tasks that public relations should take on to provide this communication.The purpose of this study is to specify how the public relations functions are perceived and the expectations from the public relations functions at the health establishments (hospitals). This research only covers the private and public hospitals that employ at least 15 and more employees which are located in and around Adana.There has been a research of literature about `public relations in health sector? in this research. In this investigation, a research model has been generated to specify how the public relations function is perceived and the expectations from the public relations by the employees of the hospitals with the findings based on the research. A model has been generated with five main dimensions with illustrative sub-dimensions for each dimension.A survey of 38 questions has been prepared to query this model at the hospitals. This survey has been applied to the doctors, nurses, managers, servants and workers who employee at the private and public hospitals. The main findings of the research are: There is no clearly defined public relations service in 1/3 (one third) in health sector. Public relations function is mostly managed by a unit which is apart from the name of Public relations. Number of employees on public relations change between 1 and 5, and as the hospital scale gets larger the number of the employees rise. It has been considered that there should be education about what public relations are and required to be award in the management (hospital).
