Attitudes of mothers of hospitalized chiildren towards rational drug use and affecting factors

This study was conducted to determine the attitudes of mothers of hospitalized children towards rational drug use and the factors affecting them. The necessary institutional and ethics committee permission was obtained to conduct the study. The study was conducted between October 2023 and October 2024 with 250 mothers of children aged 0-12 years who were hospitalized in the Pediatrics and Infancy Service of Yozgat City Hospital and who agreed to participate in the study. "Descriptive Information Form, Parental Attitude Scale for Rational Drug Use (PASRU)" was used to collect the data. The data of the study were analyzed with appropriate statistical methods in SPSS 22 package program. The mean total score of the Parental Attitudes Toward Rational Drug Use Scale was found to be 165.02±15.85 (200-114), the mean score of the Correct and Conscious Drug Use subscale was 123.87±11.04 (90-145) and the mean score of the Effective and Safe Drug Use subscale was 41.14±7.27 (20-55). A significant difference was found between the mothers' education level, income level, family type, and the place where the medicines were stored and their rational drug use attitude scores. As a result of the study, it was found that mothers had high rational drug use scale scores, but they also had irrational drug use attitudes. It is recommended that training and counselling services should be provided in cooperation with all parties in order to increase the awareness of mothers about rational drug used when the child was ill affected the attitudes of mothers towards rational drug use.
