Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out in İskenderun and Antakya counties of Hatay province with the objectives of investigating the technical, social, economical, environmental, public health aspects of urban and peri-urban livestock production systems. The results indicated that the urban and peri-urban livestock production were significantly insufficient technically, causing great discomfort to the neighbourhood via sound, smell and fly pollution of the vicinity. In additional the existing housing was found to be unsuitable for the provision of human, public and environmental health. More over the system of production was found to be uneconomical due to low productivity. The results also indicated that among the main objectives of involvement in urban and peri-urban livestock production, the provision of livestock products for the household may become more and more attractive in the future.
