Abstract (EN)

This study aims to examine the place of animals in human life, their perception and positioning by humans, their evaluation, their cultural, religious, and scientific consideration, and the relationship between them within a biopolitical framework. The data obtained examines the extent to which the human-animal relationship aligns with biopolitical explanations made about human life. The fundamental research question is whether there are differences between the attitudes of individuals working professionally in the field and those working elsewhere regarding interactions in human-animal relationships, and the possibility of discussing these findings within the context of current biopolitics. In the qualitative assessment section of the study, the research population consisted of adult male and female individuals living in Samsun Province who have professional relationships with animals and those who do not. Semi-structured interviews were used in the qualitative study. Eleven (11) questions were asked to obtain comprehensive information. The interviews were conducted with 20 individuals selected through a purposive sampling method. The findings of the study indicate that human-animal relationships are generally approached within the framework of ecological order, needs defined as indispensable and ever-increasing, and health. The need for social and psychological connection follows these values. Individuals with professional relationships with animals offer more professional and in-depth interpretations of technical and field-related issues, while generally similar responses and approaches are found on other themes. Individuals without professional relationships with animals interpret the human-animal relationship more emotionally and based on their lived experiences. It is concluded that the explanations and observations made by thinkers in the field of biopolitics can be explanatory and guiding in evaluating findings on human-animal relationships.
