Abstract (EN)
Sarcopenia is the loss of muscle mass, endurance and strength and negatively affects the quality of life of patients. Chronic renal failure affects patients world wide, especially in the geriatric population. Patients usually receive hemodialysis (HD) treatment and this process is quite tiring. The risk of developing sarcopenia increases as a result of weakness and weakening in the muscles of the patients. There is no consensus on how best to measure and define reduced muscle mass in the clinic. The GLIM criteria also addressed this topic to reveal how to assess reduced muscle mass. The aim of the study is to evaluate malnutrition and sarcopenia in HD patients by using the determined screening methods and to demonstrate the effectiveness of the assessment methods in the definition of sarcopenia by comparing their compliance with the GLIM Criteria. Data Collection Form, Nutritional Status and Habits Information Form, NRS-2002, MNA, GLIM Consensus Criteria, Anthropometric Measurement Form, PNI–O, BİA, hand dynamometer, walking speed test, non-flexible measuring tape, scale, stadiometer and caliper were used to collect data. 115 people, 63 women and 52 men, participated in the study. There was no significant difference in the PNI-O assessment item in men and women with and without sarcopenia (p>0.05). There was a statistically significant difference in the NRS-2002, MNA screening, MNA grand total, GLIM result and GLIM evaluation titles in women with and without sarcopenia (p<0.05). Considering the detection rates of sarcopenia by screening methods, more individuals were found to be sarcopenic compared to GLIM. This result suggests that GLIM may be a method that can overlap with sarcopenia.
