Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to evaluate the relationship between nutritional status, malnutrition-inflammation score and sarcopenia in hemodialysis (HD) patients. The study was conducted between March 2023 and October 2023 in Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University Hospital, Tekirdağ Dr. İsmail Fehmi Cumalıoğlu City Hospital, Tekirdağ Çorlu State Hospital Dialysis Units and Private Tekirdağ Ege Dialysis Center on a total of 120 HD patients (53 female, 67 male) who met the inclusion criteria. Within the scope of the study, face-to-face questionnaires were applied to the patients. The presence of sarcopenia was examined with CAMRY brand EH-101 electronic hand dynamometer for handgrip and biochemical data were obtained from patient files. Sarcopenia was found in 75.8% (n=91) and malnutrition in 39.2% of the patients. Inflammation is frequently encountered in patients undergoing dialysis. The mean malnutrition-inflammation score (MIS) was 8.084.01 and the mean serum CRP level was 14.44 ± 23.11 mg/dL. The mean age of sarcopenic patients (62,6412,55) was higher than that of patients without sarcopenia (51,0712,48). The body weight of sarcopenic patients (66,1211,87) was lower than that of non-sarcopenic patients (73,5817,96). In conclusion, age and body weight variables were found to have statistically significant effects on sarcopenia, and the prevalence of sarcopenia was found higher in men than in women.
