Abstract (EN)
Academic self-efficacy is deemed a noteworthy strategy for standing out against academic failure in undergraduate nursing students. Yet, the national literature host studies only superficially evaluating self-efficacy in nursing education. Therefore, the present study aimed to explore psychometric properties of the "Academic Nurse Self-Efficacy Scale" (ANSEC) developed by Bulfone et al. (2019), in the Turkish context. Moreover, we attempted to reveal the relationship between the academic self-efficacy among nursing students and their socio-demographic characteristics and thoughts on the program. The sample of this methodological, descriptive study consisted of 235 undergraduate nursing students at a state university. We collected the data using a demographic information form and the ANSEC. Following the translation-back-translation procedure, we submitted the draft form to the opinions of 20 experts. We calculated its content validity index (CVI) values to be 0.80 and above. Then, we performed confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to examine its construct validity. Moreover, we calculated its internal consistency coefficient and found out the scale to be highly reliable (α = 0.825). Finally, we reported the item-total correlation values to vary between 0.321 and 0.747, while test-retest reliability was 0.817. The majority of the participants were females and between 25-28 years. The findings revealed significant associations between internal emotion management and gender, between external emotion management and year of study, between external emotion management and auto-regulatory behavior and age, and between auto-regulatory behavior and GPA (p<0.05 for all). Overall, we suggested that the ANSEC is a valid and reliable measurement tool for the Turkish context.
