Abstract (EN)
EVALUATION OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF BASIC LIFE SUPPORT SIMULATION TRAINING GIVEN TO NURSING STUDENTS Introduction and Objective Nursing students should be equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide direct care and intervention to the patient. Simulation is an active education method that offers the opportunity to learn by experiencing a specific subject. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the effect of Basic Life Support (BLS) training given with simulation on nursing students' knowledge, skills, self-confidence level and satisfaction. Method The study was planned as a quasi-experimental, one-group pretest-posttest. The study included 36 students who were fourth-year students at SANKO University Nursing Department in the 2023-2024 academic year and who met the research criteria. The data of the study were collected by means of "Student Introductory Information Form" and "TYD Knowledge Test", "Student Satisfaction and Confidence in Learning Scale (SSTLCS)", "Evaluation of Simulation-Based Learning Scale (SBALSS)" forms and audio and video recordings taken during the applications. Before starting the study, the students were administered the "TYD Knowledge Pretest". Students were first given theoretical and then skills training by simulation method. TYD applications were performed with scenarios. After the applications were completed, a feedback session was held. Skill evaluation was made by two experts with the records taken. After the training and applications, the students were administered the SCLCS, SDLCS and "TYD Knowledge Post-Test". In the evaluation of the data, number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, median and quartiles, independent groups t test, Mann-Whitney U test, dependent groups t test, McNemar test were used, and the intraclass correlation coefficient was calculated. Results Of the 36 students who participated in the study, 80.6% were female and 88.9% of the students graduated from general high school. The students' knowledge level of CPR (pre-test= 44.72±15.40; post-test= 68.89±14.69) was statistically higher in the post-test (p<0.001). The mean skill score of the students was very good (117.1±7.8), the level of SCLCS was high (58.03±5.48), and the level of "SDLCS" was high (168.11±16.69). Conclusion As a result of the study, it was determined that the level of anxiety, fear and excitement felt by the students before the training decreased, self-confidence, satisfaction, motivation and knowledge level increased, and skill level improved. It is thought that cardiopulmonary resuscitation training given by simulation method will contribute significantly to professional practice, self-confidence development and student satisfaction. Keywords: Simulation, basic life support, nursing student, cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
