The effect of shiftwork on the tendency of vocational medical error at nursing

The people who provide service of Nursing being deprive of minimum knowledge, skill and experience for protecting the human health and life may put the lives of those people in danger. Medical errors are among the main problems of healthcare systems. There is no healthcare system that has never encountered any medical errors. The healthcare system where there is minimum medical error is the desired healthcare system. It has been supposed that busy and long study hours, irregular and poor sleep that shiftwork causes which is one of the requirements of the service of Nursing increase the risk of medical error tendency. The profession of nursing which is a medical professional has been known to have an important place in preventing medical errors. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of the shift work in vocational medical error in the profession of Nursing. It has been aimed to have an idea about the relationship between the tendency of medical errors of the nurses and the shift work system, to take precautions of preventing medical errors, to organize the shiftwork system of the nurses and to prevent/decrease the legal procedures that the Nurses encounters. There is not a study carried out about this subject in Tekirdag. The data obtained at the end of the study planned will make contribution to both the province and the literature. For this reason, questions including personal information, questions of medical error tendency scale, questions of Epworth Scale of Doziness, questions of sleep cycle have been implemented and the findings obtained has been analyzed. In the study, it will be possible to create awareness about the subject among the nurses and the administrators of the institution by determining vocational medical error, the effect of the shiftwork system on medical error. In this case, it has been predicted that more services with quality will be possible by decreasing the medical errors of medical staff and regulating the effective working hours.
