Abstract (EN)

The thesis examines the relationship between classical Arabic dictionaries and Quranic commentaries within the first four centuries of time limitation. Studying this theme contributes to the history of exegesis in two ways. This is important in terms of revealing the intense contact of lexicography with tafsir, which is considered a sub-branch of linguistics, as well as the discovery of philological disciplines developed under the auspices of tafsir. Text analysis method is used in this study. The material of tafsir, which was determined in Arabic dictionaries with high representational value of the first four centuries of Hijri, was classified by centering the subjects of tafsir. The positive aspect of limiting this research to time in the first four centuries is that it reflects the content of the work of the period in which linguistic texts and commentary were written. On the other hand, the negative side of this limitation is that the writing of exegesis is concentrated at the beginning of the first four centuries while the dictionaries are written at the end of the fourth century. The negativity does not arise from the temporal distribution of the genres in the writing process. In fact, the difficulty in determining the effect of this distribution on the relationship between species is the main negativity. Because in this chronological line where dictionaries and exegesis are written, it is quite possible to examine the effect of exegesis on dictionaries, but it is difficult to examine the effect of dictionaries on exegesis. The main claim of this study is that there is an interaction between classical Arabic dictionaries and tafsirs of the first four centuries. By proving this claim, it becomes clear that the tafsir is shaped in close contact with lexicography. It is also understood that the tafsir affected lexicography, which is perceived as purely philology. Because the use of verses as al-istishhad also required their interpretation. Our study primarily focuses on the birth and development of Arabic lexicography. In this way the historical background becomes its fundamental. Then I classified the material of exegesis in the dictionaries with the theme of philology and Quranic sciences. In addition to this classification, the reflection of theological and fiqh contents to dictionaries has been added. As a proof of this data and the aim of searching the other pole of tafsir - dictionary relationship, the dictionarical heritage of tafsir was also examined through the same headings. Keywords: tafsir, classical Arabic dictionaries, relation, exegesis, history of tafsir
