Abstract (EN)

Recently, research on hydrogen generation from borohydrides and direct use of borohydrides in fuel cells have gained great importance. Borohydrides are reducing agents as well and they have specific uses in organic and inorganic chemistry. Sodium borohydride has an important place among borohydrides, since it has a theoretical hydrogen storage capacity of 10.6 % by mass. Hydrogen generation from NaBH4 aqueous alkaline solutions can be achieved in the presence of catalysts and sodium metaborate (NaBO2) is obtained as by product. Half of the hydrogen generated by the hydrolysis of sodium borohydride is from the borohydride itself, and the other half is from water. The objective of this study was to develop a recycling process to produce sodium borohydride from sodium metaborate.
