Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT Master of Science Thesis ND3ALKUS Anadolu University Grawate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Physics Department Supervisor : AssocProf. Mustafa SENYEL 1998, Page 79 In this study Hofmann-diam-type clathrates which are formulated in M(dahpn)Ni(CN)4.nG(M=Cd, Ni; G=biphenyl, naphthalane, anthracene, phenanthrene) are obtained chemically.Infared absorption spectra are occurred with FT-IR spectrometer in the 4000-400 cm spectroscopic region and we have done spectral analysis for each clathrates. By making comparison and analogy with free diaminoheptane, we have obtained vibrational frequencies and modes for each clathrates. Frequency layers in some vibrational modes due to clathrates formation are observed. It was found out that this layers were appeared because of bounding metal, metal ligand vibrational modes and coupling. In the clathrates spectra, v(CsN) frequency shift to the higher frequency in comparison to the free dahpn molecule are observed due to the metal bounding. This indicates that nitrogen atoms are bounded by the metal atom. Analysing the spectra we have determined that the clathrates are formed in the polymeric I M-Ni(CN)4 1 M layers. In our clathrates, nickel atoms were bounded by the four C atoms of CN molecule and the metal atoms surrounded by the four N of CN group and the N atom of ligand. Guest molecules can be accommodated in the host lattices[l]. Key Words: Hofmann-diam-type clathrates, FT-IR spectrometer, vibrational frequencies, ligand, guest molecule, diaminoheptane. 11
