Abstract (EN)

This study aims to evaluate the portrayal of women in Hüseyin Rahmi Gürpınar's novels Mürebbiye, Kuyrukluyıldız Altında Bir İzdivaç (Marriage Under the Comet), and Meyhanede Kadınlar (Women in the Tavern).The study first explores the reflection of women as social and literary entities in Turkish literature. It then provides an overview of Gürpınar's life, literary personality, works, novelistic approach, character types, and narrative techniques. Following this contextual framework, the analysis focuses on the role and function of women in Gürpınar's selected novels. The study reveals that Gürpınar consistently places women at the center of his narratives, assigning them diverse characters, temperaments, perspectives, and professions. Moreover, it is observed that the author conveys his social messages through female characters, particularly by means of dialogues between the sexes, conversations and debates among women, and themes such as curiosity and revenge.
