Assesment of relationship between physical activity level and balance among the remaining nursing home seniors

Objective: Assesment of relationship between physical activity level and balance among the remaining nursing home seniors. Material and Method:Nursing home volunteers who have any neurological or orthopedic problems and cognitive aspects of Mini-Mental test results for 18 and over 18 were involved our study. Tinetti Balance and Gait Test , Berg Balance Scale , Balance Error Scoring System ( BESS ) Posturography balance device were used to assess the balance of all the participants. Also International Physical Activity Questionnaire ( IPAQ ) ,Functional Activity Score ( FAS) were used to determine physical activity levels of all participants and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale was used. Findings: All participants were analyzed statistically and the results which is between balance and physical activity level value is meaningful(p <0.05) The correlations between IPAQ and the Berg balance scale is significant (p = 0.036); IPAQ and Tinetti total score is significant(p = 0.021); IPAQ and Tinetti balance score is significant(p = 0.005). The results which is between FAS and berg balance scale is meaningful (p = 0.010); The correlation between FAS and the Tinetti total score (p = 0.019) was found.FAS and BESS static score have negative correlation (p = 0.024). A significant correlation between FAS and the Tinetti Balance Score was found(p = 0.008). Results: The results of our study, Balance and the level of physical activity are significantly correlated .
