Reading the parable of Hz. Nūh in the context of siret

The study based on the potentiality of reading the Qur'anic parabales (qiṣṣas) within the context of siret is the product of struggling to read the Nūḥ's qiṣṣa on the basis of siret. At the first instance, the Qur'anic verses regarding the Prophet Nūḥ and his peoples are attempted to identify. The chronological order, upon which Izzet Derveze and Jābirī predicated, is applied to determine the times in which the sūras of the verses were revealed. Nonetheless, some changes related to the positioning of sūras have been made with the consequence of the reading that takes into consideration the relationship between siret and nuzūl. Within the study based upon the sūras that were revealed in Mecca, the featured events in the Mecca period have been applied as the basis of evaluating the relationship between siret and nuzūl, and these events have been categorised under four titles. Presenting specific information related to each period, the verses related to the Nūḥ's qiṣṣa were evaluated within the context of the siret of the Messenger of Allah, thereby considering the conditions of that period. The study aims to analyse whether there is a relationship between the qiṣṣa regarding the Prophet Nūḥ and the events that occurred in the course of the Prophet Muhammad. If so, it is also intended to provide an insight into the nature of this relationship. Many difficulties, challenges and hardships that the Prophet Nūḥ had experienced while conveying the message of Allah to his peoples occurred within the relationship between the Prophet Muḥammad and Meccan polytheists. To put an example, the details regarding the Nūḥ's qiṣṣa revealed in the Mecca period tacitly warn the Meccan polytheists by referring to the perishment of the people of Nūḥ because of their impugnment of Nūḥ. Additionally, patience was recommended to the Prophet and the Muslims in the face of all kinds of persecutions and oppressions. In this respect, the similarity between the life reported and the life experienced will contribute considerably to the understanding of the revealed text by its audiences.
