Identification of challenges and critical success factors encountered by businesses in the data governance process

The purpose of this study is to identify the critical success factors that are important in the implementation of the data governance process in organizations. The main objective of this research is to uncover these key critical factors that drive successful data governance initiatives. Using a qualitative methodology, and phenomenological research, this study explores the experiences and challenges faced by professionals in different sectors of data governance. The method of the study is qualitative research method. A semi-structured interview form was used as a data collection tool. There are 43 questions in total in the interview form. The participants, 12 professionals experienced in data governance programs and projects, provided rich and contextual insights. By analyzing these interviews through descriptive and content analysis techniques, the study effectively captured the essence of the participants' ideas, thoughts, and experiences. The study identified critical success factors that organizations will face in the data governance process. The factors that stand out and attract attention can be listed as top management support, technology integration, budget allocation, awareness raising, and adaptation to data governance. In particular, the study has revealed new critical success factors and problem-solving approaches that have not been previously addressed in the literature and serve as a guide for businesses starting the data governance process.
