Investigation of the relation between p fimbria existence and gsbl formation in e.coli strains isolated from urine samples

Abstract (EN)

Purpose and hypthesis: Urinary system infection is one of the most frequent infectious diseases observed in medical practice. By 50-90 percent frequency, E.coli is the highest isolated bacterium in urinary system infection. Many factors belongs to both host and bacterium play a role in pathogenesis. Virulence factor among bacterial factors is very important. The most important virulence factor in E.coli strains is adherence. Today, the resistance due to GBSL production is very common in Klebsiella spp and E.coli strains. GSBL (+) microorganisms are resistant to all wide spectrum cepHalosporins, aztreonam and penicillins including wide spectrum ones. Cost, mortality and morbidity have been increasing in infections by GSBL producing microorganisms. In this study, it has been aimed to detect a possible relation between P fimbria existence and GSBL formation in E.coli strains.Methods: In the study, 105 E.coli strains obtained from samples coming to Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Laboratory of Adnan Menderes University Medical Center were used and their sensitivities against various antibiotics were tested. Presence of CYSD and GSBL was detected. P fimbria bands belongst to same strains were observed in PCR. Results were statistically analyzed.Results: GSBL ratio was 48,6 % in studied strains. While Pap A frequency was 36.2%, Pap G frequency was 14,3%. GSBL formation and P fimbria existence were not significantly related. All strains were sensitive to ertapenem, meropenem, tigecycline and amicacine. There was a statistically significant relation between P fimbria existence and gentamisin resistance.Conclusion: Antibiotic resistance in bacteria has been progressively increasing. Could GSBL, which is important in resistance mechanisms, be also a pathogenicity sign? For this purpose, we investigated the relation between GSBL formation and P fimbria presence, which is an important sign for pathogenicity in urinary system. As a result, there was no significant difference between GSBL formation and P fimbria presence.Key words: Urinary system infection, E.coli, GSBL, P fimbria
