Abstract (EN)

Following the declaration of the Second Constitutional Monarchy, significant progress was made in terms of press freedom, and many new newspapers began to be published. Among the newspapers published in Istanbul during this period, Siper-i Saika and Hürriyet played a significant role. Siper-i Saika published its first issue on February 24, 1909, while Hürriyet began publication on February 18, 1909. These two newspapers, Hürriyet in its 25th issue and Siper-i Saika in its 49th, decided to merge on May 6, 1909, and continued publication under the name Siper-i Saika-i Hürriyet, using issue numbers 26-50. Throughout its publication period, it focused on the Cretan issue, aiming to support the struggle for loyalty to Ottoman rule. The newspaper's fundamental mission was to publicize the Cretan issue, one of the most important political issues facing the Ottoman Empire, and to defend Ottoman unity. In addition, another view he espoused aimed to inform the public with accurate information and combat those who sought to disrupt unity and solidarity by attempting to spread misinformation. Siper-i Saika-i Hürriyet, which ran from issues 111-135, closed on August 1, 1909, due to financial and administrative reasons, and had a lifespan of approximately five months. Finally, a comprehensive index bringing together all the content of Siper-i Saika-i Hürriyet, which was formed after the merger of Hürriyet and Siper-i Saika, along with their independent publication periods before the merger, is presented in the appendices section.
